The Berlin University of Applied Sciences is aims to fill a professorship  (W2) in the School of Design and Culture (faculty 5) for the following subject area as soon as possible: 

Subject area: Conservation and Restoration of Technical and Industrial Heritage ID no. 537 Bachelor’s degree programme Conservation‐and Restoration/Field Archaeology/Master’s degree programme Conservation‐and  Restoration/Landscape Archaeology 

Profile and Requirements 

HTW Berlin is looking for a person who will represent the topic area in terms of teaching and research and develop it fur ther through own interdisciplinary projects. The following key areas of expertise are required: 

Application and development of conservation and restoration methods for technical and industrial heritage on the basis  of materials science, technological and historical property research 

Research and implementation of conservation and restoration concepts for large-scale objects and technical collections including material combinations, particularly properties featuring composites of metal(s), polymers or other organic objects 

Research and implementation of preventive conservation for large objects experience presentations, in storage conditions and in outdoor areas, including monitoring 

Restoration and conservation experience with challenging issues in collaboration with corresponding institutions, interdisciplinary cooperation and evidence of innovative approaches and concepts, e.g. through third-party funded projects and  publication, is desirable. The successful applicant is expected to maintain the active supervision and continuation of the  existing reference collection of synthetic and natural materials. 

The prerequisite for the vacant subject area is a university degree in the field of conservation/restoration with a Phd or  doctoral degree, as well as at least 5 years of experience in the specialist area in question, of which at least 3 are required  in the fields of practical restoration, teaching and scientific research. The ability to cooperate, in addition to pedagogical  expertise and social skills, is expected. 

A willingness to participate in university committees, especially in terms of academic self-administration, as well as participation in the further development of the two degree programmes is also required. 

Recruitment Requirements 

The recruitment requirements for professors are based on § 100, section 1, nos. 1, 2, 3 and 4, letter b) of the Berlin Higher  Education Act (BerlHG). Please note that 5 years of relevant professional experience, 3 years of which must have been  gained outside the university, is a prerequisite for recruitment.
